Getting Started on the Internet (OLD VERSION)
Chapter 1: Introduction
The World Wide Web can be a wonderful resource. Whether simply checking out the latest up-to-the-minute news, researching topics of interest, tuning into a music station, checking out the bank balance or even buying online, you'll find most things you could ever need or want to know just a click or two away.
These web pages are often rich and vibrant in content; presenting textual data, various controls and graphical and animated images in various forms. Connecting these pages all together are hyperlinks! Hyperlinks, often just referred to as links or hot spots, provide the easy means of moving from one web page address (i.e. URL, uniform resource locator) to another without the need to know or even enter in the address. Just selecting the link takes you there! Such links are embedded in the web page's content and can form part of the textual or graphical data displayed on the page.
Hence, when navigating a web page you need to be able to easily review the content of the page, identify controls on the page and be able to recognise those sought after hyperlinks within the page. In the topics that follow we will demonstrate just how easily this is achieved with your Dolphin screen reader.
But, before embarking on this journey, here are a couple of important hot keys to remember.
| Action | Key Press |
