Video: Dolphin Guide online demonstration - Part 3 of 3

You can see there how easy it is to either navigate a website with a mouse or just the keyboard. Guide can also convert any page into a text only version. To do this, press T on the keyboard. Guide will then remove all structure and background images, just leaving the page showing the text and a few key images. Everything is kept on the left hand side of the page which makes it much easier to navigate through the page. You can use the arrow keys to read through a few lines. In the normal way I can press the magnification key to enlarge text and images on the page. Now I’ll press escape to take us back to the address box at the top. Then I'll type the word close which will take us back to the main menu.

Scanning and reading

I'm now going to show you the scan and read option in Guide, which effectively turns Guide and your computer into a reading machine. There are several options, depending on whether you want to quickly read one page or whether you want to read a chapter of a book. For this demonstration I'm going to quickly scan and read one page of a book. I've put the book on my scanner and now I'm going to press one. The text will be brought up on screen and Guide will read it out. As with all text in Guide, you can read it out line by line, sentence by sentence, word by word and we can press the magnification key to magnify all this text. Once we've scanned we can save it or print it. Press escape to return to the main menu.

Using the calendar

The final feature I'm going to demonstrate is Guide's easy to use calendar which can be used to record appointments and set reminders. Press seven to look at the calendar. We use the up and down arrow keys to go backwards and forwards through the days. To move to a different month you can use the page up and page down keys. If we have any appointments, Guide reads them out to us. If we want to add a new appointment, we can go to the selected day and press enter, then type in appointment at the appropriate time. You can select a reminder by using the arrow keys. Press escape to go back to the main calendar. There's a nice feature in Guide that lets me filter out all my busy or all my free time. If I press B Guide will just show me the days that are busy. I can use page up and page down to flick between the months to show just bust days. Then I can press A to show all days again. When I've finished with the calendar I press escape to return to the main menu.
