Make it Accessible Course Outline

Is your organisation's information accessible to all your readers? Are you making reasonable adjustments for your blind, low vision and dyslexic readers? Ensure your organisation is compliant with the Equality Duty by offering accessible information and alternative formats. This 1-day course introduces accessibility basics, as well as offering an overview of assistive software. A practical course, a large part of the day is spent 'hands-on' using text-to-speech software and creating large print, Braille and more.

Who is it for?

Those who need to make information accessible to internal or external clients, learners, co-workers or customers with partial sight, blindness, or special learning needs such as dyslexia. This course is particularly relevant for:

• Employers & HR Departments
• Charities and voluntary organisations
• Local councils and government departments
• Anyone obliged by the Equality Duty to offer accessible information

Course Objectives

• Explain why accessible information is necessary
• Make documentation accessible to users of assistive technology using proper structuring
• Convert documents into Braille, DAISY talking books, MP3 audio files and large print

Course Content

• Accessibility basics - Who needs accessible documents? Why is it important? How can we make information accessible?
• Input documents - Effectively formatting input (source) documents. What types of documents can be made accessible?
• Accessibility software - An overview of Guide and SuperNova; hands-on session using SaySo to access documents and web pages.
• Making alternative formats with EasyConverter - Convert text into large print, MP3, DAISY talking book and Braille. Convert PDFs using the OCR editor.
