Harriet Grant: Training Manager/HR Coordinator

A photo of Harriet GrantWhen did you start at Dolphin?

I started with Dolphin in February 2010 as their Training Coordinator.

What qualifications or experience did you have?

I finished University in 2008 with a degree in Human Biology. I then spent 15 months in the Training Administration Department at a large utilities company.

What made you choose Dolphin?

The Training Coordinator position advertised at Dolphin attracted me because I knew that a position in a small company would be a great way to gain a wide range of experience. The company is also very different in what it does, it was a market I had never even considered had existed before I couldn't help but want to know more. Also, never shy of a challenge, the opportunity for growth in the role excited me. I had also looked at Graduate Schemes both at my current company, and at some of the big Blue Chip organisations, as the opportunities looked promising but I really didn't want to have to move around the country every few months doing various placements for 2 years, and wanted to work somewhere less bureaucratic and corporate.

What are the biggest challenges you have faced?

I've been out of my comfort zone a lot, but have always had the support to acquire the skills and knowledge I needed to know to do my job. I love the fact that most days I'm learning something new.

What sort of development have you received in your time at Dolphin?

I've received all the training I've needed to enable me to do my job, and continue to progress. Training incentives like Visual Impairment awareness that we ran for all staff were invaluable to me as a new employee. I've also learned a lot from other people in the organisation, who are always happy to help.

How has your role developed?

I started off just coordinating external software training, but after initially taking on internal training, and getting involved in appraisals, my role has now evolved, and I now look after the HR for the company, and have recently been promoted to Training Manager.

What do you rate in Dolphin as an employer?

I feel like there's a lot of room to grow here. Also one of the first things that hit me when I started was how amazingly friendly and supportive of each other everyone is.
